At this point, the COVID-19 virus has impacted you in some way. Whether it be knowing someone who has contracted it or reeling from the social impacts government officials have taken to combat the spread. Both positive and negative social impacts exist out there.

Celebrating International Women’s Day by reflecting on the overwhelming influence women have had on my life.

One of the attendees came up to me, asked to take a photo and then says “You are my role model, I want to do what you do.” I was very flattered and thanked him for the comment, but for some reason, the teachings of my Krav Maga instructor popped in my head.

Growing up in Los Angeles, I was fortunate enough to witness two dynasties in NBA Basketball. I call them the ‘Magic’ and ‘Kobe’ dynasties. They were a period of years in which these two basketball legends led their teams to dominate the NBA.

One of the most fun job’s I ever had was when I worked as the webmaster of the Corporate Synergy website for the Walt Disney Company. I had the great fortune to land in the Corporate Synergy Department in which I reported to some amazing women whom I learned a lot from. One of the great lessons is the subject of this article. 

Quite often, I am asked questions about how I managed to get a job and stay relevant in the tech industry. I’ve answered some of those questions below in the hopes that you can take some of my experiences and put them to use. 

My new role is still with Microsoft, still a Premier Field Engineer, but now I am focusing on the Power Platform. The Power Platform consists of three pillars: Power Apps, Power Automate and Power BI. When I began working for Microsoft, I was focused on SharePoint, I wrote a blog about that experience here. Many people ask me ‘What do you do for Microsoft’, I’ll begin with that.

I will never forget when I was working at a company called HNC Software, that ended up getting bought out by FICO, and I first laid my eyes on SharePoint. My manager was a guy named Tony Pitpit, he was always a visionary and had a pulse on the industry.

In January of 2019, myself, Joel Oleson, Dave Leveille and Erica Toelle discussed the possibility of having an event in Baja California. The thought and motivation behind this event was: To hold an event in Mexico that brought people together.
