Life in the time of COVID-19
At this point, the COVID-19 virus has impacted you in some way. Whether it be knowing someone who has contracted it or reeling from the social impacts government officials have taken to combat the spread. Both positive and negative social impacts exist out there. With products such as Microsoft Teams, there is no reason why a job in which you sit behind a computer 75% of the time cannot be done remotely. Bill Gates claimed flextime as one of the greatest benefits a company could offer.
My hope is that this ordeal will help us to be more mindful and dare I say it “Spiritual”? I began writing in a gratitude journal. It seems to set a the day ahead in a direction of positivity because if I can find things to be thankful for, how I can I be in a negative state?
Now, I realize that my thankfulness may not be the same as yours, especially for people who’s loved ones may have the disease or those of you being affected professionally, but there is always something to be grateful for.
At least it will make us more innovative in how we approach our daily lives and question what we define as a ‘necessity’.
I have heard some of these quotes over the past week and have some responses for them:
What am I going to do for my girlfriend!! Its her birthday this week and restaurants are closed!?
Pick some flowers, get a candle, cook/order takeout for her. Then serve it to her at a park, beach, near a tree. Here are more ideas for you.
OMG!! There’s no food at the grocery store!!
You mean, there’s no food you like to eat at the grocery store? Because I just saw lots of fresh vegetables!!!!
I think this is the end of the world!!
Do you realize that 780 million people do not have access to clean water?
Wineries are being forced to close to curb the outbreak!!!
HOUSTON!!! WE HAVE A PROBLEM!!!!!
Times are changing, my hope is that at the end of this ordeal, companies will realize that the sun will still rise if they let their employees work from home, as a matter of fact, productivity will most likely improve especially if employees take breaks and do things like walking outside, walking barefoot on the grass (grounding), pumping iron at your home gym or just sitting still. The sun will also rise if we simplify our lives a bit and take the time to ‘smell the flowers’.
