Alaska: A Lesson in Quantum Mechanics

This week I was in Yakutat Alaska in which myself and a group of great guys fish for delicious Coho Salmon . The first day was a day of disappointment, at least for the first half of the day, and then spectacular adventure was the other half. As the Law of Rhythm states “Everything Rises and Falls”. And this day, was no exception.

The day started off like this, perfect weather and my fishing rod with bait in the water. I get a bite as soon as the hook and bait hit the water. As I’m reeling it in, my reel jams due to the line getting tangled and stuck. That fish gets away. I catch another about an hour later, and that fish manages to take my entire line off my reel because I forgot to tie a knot onto the reel. A very careless and costly mistake to see a perfect 10 pound fish swim away.

At this point, I figured I would spend the rest of the day re-configuring my reel and just hope for a better day tomorrow. But I have been reading a book called “Transurfing”, in which the philosophy is how we can create our own reality based on how we think which translates into our actions. If I had wallowed in sorrow and frustration, I would have absolutely gone back to our lodge empty handed, but I decided to think good thoughts about catching fish and feeding it to my loved ones back home.

The day changed drastically within minutes.

My friend helped me re-configure my reel, so team work is important. The minute, and this is no exaggeration, the hook and bait hit the water I caught a fish and landed it. I get back onto the bridge, set another bait, drop the hook and AGAIN I get a bite. I landed that fish as well. I go back up to the bridge, put a new bait on hook, drop the line and AGAIN I catch another fish. As I write this, I still find it hard to believe how quickly the day changed for the better. I ended up catching another fish later.

The person who referred the book to me told me that I should not abuse this philosophy of Transurfing, to only use it for important changes in my life. That made a lot of sense but WOW was it fun to create my own reality like this!!

In the world of Quantum physics we have Entanglement, which Einstein called ‘spooky action at a distance’. The theory is that particles at the quantum level, are linked even though they are separated by long distances. It is very difficult to understand and comprehend, but then again, so was fire to our ancestors, they thought it was magic, therefore I keep an open mind.

Maybe, just maybe, my good thoughts contributed to the outcome that I just described. I am a skeptic but I’d like to believe.
